Security, Peace, and Self Defense
If you have spent any time reading our blog, you will have noticed that security, peace of mind, and positivity are the cornerstones of our business. We have them at the center of who we are; whether it comes to the security of our devices or the meaningful, everyday interactions we have with our customers. Thanks to our company permeating these qualities, we tend to attract like-minded businesses and people who want to provide their customers with the same things that we do.
Joel Ellenbecker, owner of Fortitude Krav Maga in Neenah, is one of those people. He feels that it is imperative for people to stay healthy and learn self-defense skills, all because he believes that internal peace of mind and security are that important. During these times of social distancing, he and his team are providing virtual classes in order to still serve his loyal clients.
For those of you who do not know what Krav Maga is, I will briefly explain it below:
Krav Maga (“contact combat” in Hebrew) was originally taught as a form of self-defense and as a combat tactic to the Israeli Army back in the 1950s. It was later adopted by law enforcement and special forces – as well as everyday citizens around the world – in order to teach individuals how to react, defend, and fight in real-world scenarios so you are never caught unprepared. On top of being an incredibly useful tool, Krav Maga is also a killer workout that can burn calories and help keep you in peak physical shape.
If you are not into Krav Maga, there are still ways that Fortitude can help you achieve a higher level of peace and strength. They provide classes for yoga, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Karate, as well as martial arts classes for kids.
One of our owners, Marsha Muenster, has been taking virtual classes run by Fortitude Krav Maga throughout the COVID-19 pandemic from the comfort of her own home. She was looking for a way to stay active when her gym closed, looking for peace and relaxation, and looking for variety during a time when day-to-day variety is almost nonexistent. She found all these things and more during her time as a student at Fortitude.
“Fortitude (Krav Maga) cares about people and their health and created an option that allows people to focus on building relationships and becoming healthy during these times of social distancing,” said Marsha. “I joined with a virtual membership that gives me access to classes online and I have been able to use it to stay fit, all while being a mother of two young children.”
If you know Marsha well at all, you will know that she is a very competitive person who loves sports and physical activities that force her to push herself. This fits the Fortitude way, as it is strenuous and helps build discipline while you complete their classes. However, Marsha’s favorite class has actually been one that involved something she was never a big fan of: yoga.
“My favorite class has been my virtual yoga class on Wednesday nights at 8 PM,” Marsha remarked. “As a person who has never really enjoyed yoga, I have been surprised to find myself looking forward to sessions with my virtual yoga ‘family’ and I truly love the way that I feel after class.”
Fortitude Krav Maga is the (virtual) place to be; whether you are looking for peace and relaxation from a yoga class, self-defense tactics to protect yourself, or simply a solid workout with some great people. They have a wide range of hours for their virtual classes and can work with just about anyone, from kids to retirement-aged individuals and beyond.
