Cure from Despair

If you have ever gone through a medical/health crisis, you will know the toll that it takes on you and your family not only physically, but also financially.  Because of the financial uncertainty that comes from health crises, there is a need for supplemental income, help, and resources.  One of our partners has been helping those in medical crises for years and are now upping their game as a new kind of medical crisis is hitting our community.

Community Benefit Tree, located in Kaukauna, has been stepping up and helping those affected by medical ailments in a myriad of ways.  As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, they rely on funding from multiple sources to enable families to better deal with medical debt.  Some of the ways that they do this include helping families with their finances, fundraising, education, other resources, and spiritual well-being.  Their main goal is to empower a community to come together in order to support families that are going through a medical crisis.

One of the stories of helping that really affected me was that of John Reese, a man who suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury over 15 years ago.  Community Benefit Tree has come alongside John to help in his search for better care and a more conducive living situation.  They were able to get fundraisers and support set up to help him get closer to his goal.  Check out his 3 ½ minute video at this link to see just one of the ways that Community Benefit Tree partners to help community members:

As the COVID-19 pandemic is taking a toll on health, jobs, and financial security, Community Benefit Tree is broadening the threshold that needs to be met in order to receive assistance and guidance from their organization.  Their Cure from Despair Fund will now include people who have lost income due to COVID-19.  The fund focuses on providing immediate basic needs relief for families located in Northeast Wisconsin – Outagamie, Calumet, Winnebago, Brown, Fond Du Lac, Shawano, Manitowoc, Door, and Waupaca counties.

If you would like to make a difference and donate, checks can be made payable to the Community Benefit Tree/Cure from Despair Fund and mailed to Community Benefit Tree, 2204 Crooks Ave, Suite C., Kaukauna, WI 54130.  Donations online can be made at communitybenefittree.org – click on the Support Us button and in the message of support section please indicate “Cure from Despair” or “COVID 19.”  As a supporter, you can accept waiving all credit card fees for your donation, so more goes back to the fund.

The Community Benefit Tree will administer requests for assistance from the fund.  Based on the urgency of the needs and situation, they will process requests.  All applicants are carefully screened so you can be confident your donations are going to the families or individuals that are in need.
